He represents executives and directors, managers, brokers, traders, investment advisors, attorneys, physicians, educators, and other employees in ERISA § 502 litigation over a denial of a claim for benefits, and breaches of fiduciary duty. Michael is actively involved in the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Employee Benefits Committee, where he co-chairs the subcommittee on benefit claims and serves as an editor of Employee Benefits Law, a joint publication by the ABA and BNA. He is also recently completed a term as the Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Section Council on Employee Benefits, and currently Chairs the Chicago Bar Association’s Employee Benefits Committee. Michael has published several works in the The John Marshall Law School’s publication, TaxEB InBrief, the ISBA’s Employee Benefits newsletter, and has prepared materials on ERISA benefits claims for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the American Bar Association. Michael frequently speaks for the American Bar Association on ERISA litigation issues. While Michael enjoys these academic pursuits, his true passion is working with individuals to secure their benefits.
Michael is actively involved in Chicago’s Croatian community, serving as counsel to several of its non-profits, and participating in an adult folk music and dance ensemble.
